Collision mitigation and protection of road users
The PReVENT subproject COMPOSE is devoted to the development of collision mitigation and pre-crash functions for cars and trucks. This includes systems such as the automatic emergency brake and the intelligent controll of reversible and irreversible passive safety systems (e.g. belt pre-tensioner and airbags). To ensure that such systems will react correctly and thus improve the safety of all road users, the robust and reliable perception of the vehicle environment is indispensable.
FORWISS will develop new concepts and algorithms for sensor fusion to improve the performance of the perception and sensor systems (based on cameras, RADAR and LIDAR sensors, infrared cameras, etc.) used in driver assistance systems for cars and trucks.
