Bio3D-Printer

Software for Data Generation And Controlling a Bio3D-Printer

Since 2002 Forwiss cooperates with the rapid prototyping group 3mat at the research center caesar in Bonn. The intent is to accomodate and extend the rapid-prototyping software Rapix3D for data processing and sequence-controlling for a bio-compatible hydroxylapatite 3D-printer.

In addition to the cooperation in the subproject RP2 (custom implants via direct rapid prototyping techniques) of the research cooperation ForTePro, special extensions for the bitmap based bio3D-printer of caesar are developed.

Especially remarkable is the attribute driven bitmap data processing, allowing a different printer resolution for each object. A corresponding series of bitmaps with a bitmap for every attribute used is transmitted to the printer. Rapix3D ensures an overview over all disposed parts while filling the virtual workspace and in a specific two-dimensional print-preview.

The sequence control of the bio3D print process is possible via network communication. All configuration data, control commands and print data are requested, generated, transmitted and confirmed via convenient object oriented commands.
